How to make a career in radio :: ::

Good Radio Training is important see you right the right start

A good way is to find out from your local radio station if they allow people to help out on programmes. Often stations have small budgets, so a person to answer calls on stations is key to their success. Write to the station and say you'll go in for free and do anything ! That way you can watch and learn from the bottom up. This is an ideal way of getting into radio for a career.

Radio Training is also clearly another way of getting into radio. There are many different radio presenting and production radio courses available in the UK and USA. After training they won't guarantee you a placement in radio, but some are better than others.

The Radio School (UK) have a successful record of getting people in radio for a career. Online radio presenter training is offered too. Like Rod Lucas's Radio School, the BBC also provide very good radio production training. Hospital Radio can also be a good place to start a radio career. It's very different from popular music and talk stations because of the very nature of their programming. It's not very adventurous and tends to be basic programming. Most hospital stations appear to be aimed at an over 60's audience. But one can learn a great deal from beginning in this kind of radio.

Try and present some basic music and talk podcasts on the net. Be unique in your content and add some music if you wish too. Push yourself to create programming which is creative and different in order to get attention. Try recording programmes in different locations. Try some interviewing people on all kinds of stuff.

You can get free streaming from places like
